Paul Knight established the North Lakeland Dental Implant Centre in 1994 to provide a range of implant treatments to rival anything available elsewhere. Referrals are encouraged from other practices in the County and Southern Scotland. Around 200 implants are placed annually with a success rate of over 98%.

Implant Systems

Of the many systems available, Astra Tech is used simply because we believe it to be the best. This very versatile system has been in use for many years and is very well documented. For more details, contact Astra Tech Dental

What are Dental Implants?

A Dental implant is a small titanium screw placed into the jaw allowing the replacement of missing teeth with crowns, bridges or just to stabilise dentures. This results in the restoration of the natural look and feel of permanent healthy teeth.

The basis of treatment is the surgical placement of the implant into the jawbone. This is carried out comfortably under local anaesthetic and without any major discomfort after the operation.

In cases where there is insufficient bone to either place implants or to achieve a good appearance, additional techniques are employed to encourage new bone growth. This may be done prior to or at the time of implant placement.

A healing period of 3-6 months is usually necessary for the implant to integrate with the bone in a process known as osseointegration.

Following integration, we can begin the process of constructing your new teeth.

Consultation

Full evaluation is necessary to ensure that you are fully informed, the treatment succeeds, and that the results meet your expectations in both appearance and function.

The sequence of consultation is as follows:

  • An initial 30 minute discussion to establish whether or not implant treatment is appropriate and affordable. Alternative treatments will be discussed at this visit.
  • A second visit to record articulated study models, relevant radiographs using the latest in digital imaging techniques with any necessary bone measuring. This is followed by a detailed report and estimate which is sent to you.
  • After acceptance of the treatment plan, arrangements will be made to start treatment.

Costs

These vary depending on the complexity and extent of each individual case and are fully explained in the treatment plan and estimate.

There is no upper age limit to undergo the placement of implants.
